“ You must educate before you can advocate .”
Jason Webb ’ s life has been a testament to the age-old adage that hard work is irreplaceable . As the son of a coal miner , Webb learned at a young age the value of determination and grit . This foundation carried him as he worked his way through college , balancing demanding internships at Merrill Lynch and a trading firm on the Chicago Board Options Exchange while also assisting with several Senior PGA Tour events .
After graduating with a bachelor ’ s degree in business administration in finance and political science from the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky , Webb embarked on a career that would see him navigating the complex waters of government relations and advocacy .
It ’ s known around the state that Webb , managing member of Capitol Advocates , LLC , understands the importance of having representation engaged throughout the entire process .
Capitol Advocates is a full-service government relations , lobbying and consulting firm based in Charleston , WV .
“ We genuinely believe in the traditional values of hard work and integrity ,” Webb says .
Webb approaches his work following a motto he coined himself : you must educate before you can advocate . He firmly believes policymakers are invariably dependent on concise and accurate information . While the introduction of these conversations is the foundation for advocacy , it ’ s the ongoing discussion and exchange of ideas that drives and sustains long-term success .
“ If you can reduce complicated matters down to their core principles , then individuals will usually have a better chance of understanding them ,” he says . “ Greater comprehension brings the likelihood that people will consider different perspectives on an issue . It ’ s through these collective efforts that we can solve complex problems .”
For nearly three decades , Webb has worked in government relations serving a diverse range of clients , including Fortune 500 companies , private equity funds , venture capitalist firms , trade associations and nonprofit corporations .
The firm ’ s services include research and analysis ; legislative representation and monitoring ; administration interaction ; regulatory process and rule-making review ; government procurement ; political strategy ; issue advocacy and support ; and site selection services .
One of the things Webb is most proud of is helping entities overcome unintended consequences caused by government actions because , as he says , “ If you ’ re not at the table , then you could end up on the menu !” •
