Simpson Dental was established in 1948 by Dr . Robert “ Bob ” R . Simpson . He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University of Ohio , graduating with his dental degree from Northwestern University of Chicago . While in dental school he met Wilma Jean “ Billie ” Newton , his future wife and mother to his six children .
Bob served as a dentist in the Navy in Norfolk , VA , during World War II . After the war , he and Billie returned to Charleston where he opened his practice that continues to flourish to this day . Throughout his career , patients would travel from all over the country and internationally to have their mouths restored .
In 1981 , his son , Dr . Mark Simpson , joined his practice . Training under his father ’ s guidance , he honed his skills for complex , full mouth treatments . Dental implants emerged as a treatment option in the 1980s , and Mark saw the benefits these implants could have for patients .
He trained under the brightest minds in the industry , including Dr . Branemark , the founder of modern implant

dentistry . Mark incorporated these techniques into his dental practice and has always believed in training his clinical and laboratory staff in kind .

In 2006 , Dr . Christen Simpson Raynes joined the team . Building on the foundation laid by her grandfather and father , Christen has actively sought out and mastered advanced technologies and complex care , distinguishing her from her peers . She has integrated many innovations , such as laser periodontal treatment and CAD Cam 3D designed scanning and milling of ceramic restorations . Additionally , Christen has implemented 3D guided implant placement , significantly enhancing accuracy and aesthetics for patients .
Christen has a passion for cosmetic dentistry and utilizes facial aesthetics to provide the total care for a beautiful smile . She has continued her education to treat the face around the smile . She uses botox , fillers and multiple modalities that rejuvenate the skin .
