For over 60 years , Putnam County Development Authority ( PCDA ) has been the lead economic development organization for Putnam County , WV , focusing on creating jobs , increasing the tax base and facilitating development in the county . At its core , PCDA is driving development in Putnam County , working diligently to retain , expand and attract new industry through a wide variety of unique tasks .
Conveniently located between the state ’ s two largest cities , Putnam County is a safe and growing bedroom community with one of West Virginia ’ s repeatedly top-ranking school systems . Many schools in the county are National Blue Ribbon Schools or West Virginia Schools of Excellence with leadership programs and higher graduation requirements . Putnam County boasts a rich history dating back to the pre-Civil War era offering unique parks , trails and historic small towns . Along with a low crime rate and easy interstate access , Putnam County is an attractive community to call home .
PCDA has continued the tradition of driving development with its recent purchase of the former Kanawha Manufacturing Buffalo plant in Red House , WV . The former industrial site manufactured equipment for the coal industry , with primary activities taking place at the Charleston location since 1902 . PCDA ’ s first tenant is Nucor Steel of West Virginia and is welcoming interested parties for the future .

PCDA owns the Putnam Business Park with nearly 30 acres of developable land , including shovel-ready sites , and maintains an active property database . Putnam County also touts a workforce participation rate of over 27,000 individuals .
