The EQT Foundation was established by EQT Corporation , the nation ’ s largest natural gas producer , and is committed to the social and economic vitality of the operating regions of the corporation , which include areas in the northwest corner of West Virginia .
Through the foundation , EQT donates nearly $ 3 million annually to programs that focus on three priority areas : environment , community enrichment and education and workforce . Additionally , the foundation operates several scholarship programs that benefit high school seniors across its footprint , especially those looking to pursue fields of study related to the energy industry .
Last year in West Virginia , the EQT Foundation awarded more than $ 620,000 in grants and program funding to nonprofits in geographies central to EQT ’ s footprint . Included in that amount was $ 150,000 in COVID-19 relief grants made to community foundations to help address hyper-local nonprofit needs during an unprecedented time .
Over the years , the EQT Foundation has built true partnerships with many West Virginia nonprofits , including The Education Alliance , Oglebay Institute , West Virginia University , Marshall University , Glenville State College , Wheeling Symphony Orchestra , West Virginia Orchestra , Mountaineer Food Bank , United Way , West Virginia Women Work and many others . develop a deeper appreciation for the topics and explore future career paths .
In addition to philanthropy , EQT Corporation is committed to donating to the community through employee volunteer hours . Each Qrew , or employee , member is requested to donate 1 % of his or her working hours a year to volunteering , which equates to roughly 20 hours a year per employee . In 2021 , through efforts organized by the company as well as personal passion projects , the Qrew will donate more than 6,000 hours to nonprofits and communitybased programs throughout the footprint .
