As one of the largest processors of natural
gas in the U.S., MPLX LP’s Gathering
and Processing Operations positively impact
economic stability in West Virginia. The
company employs more than 200 people, as
well as hundreds of additional contractors,
at its West Virginia facilities. The MPLX
Sherwood Complex in Doddridge County
is the largest, and the company also owns
and operates facilities in Majorsville,
Mobley, Cobb and Kenova, which are
located in Marshall, Wetzel, Kanawha
and Wayne counties respectively.
“In 2019, we invested heavily to increase the
overall processing capacity at our Sherwood
Complex to 2.6 billion cubic feet per day of
natural gas,” says Sam Schupbach, vice
president of operations for MPLX Gathering
and Processing Operations. “In doing so,
the Sherwood Complex became the largest
gas processing facility in North America.”
While expanding operations, however,
MPLX Gathering and Processing—known
locally as MarkWest—has always focused
on safe and environmentally responsible
operations.
“As we conduct our important business,
our top priority remains the safety of our
workforce and the communities where we
operate and protecting the environment
we all share,” says Schupbach. “Safe,
environmentally responsible operations
are non-negotiable, and we keep those
priorities top of mind every day.”
MPLX contributes to West Virginia’s
prosperity by helping to turn its abundant
natural resources into well-paying jobs and
tax revenue to bolster the state’s finances.
“Our employees are not only critical to
our success, but they are also passionate
about making their communities better
places to live and work,” says Schupbach.
“MPLX and its employees have helped
make several projects possible throughout
the state. Some of these include new
libraries, street repairs, sewage projects,
medical facility enhancements, courthouse
exterior renovations, new school entrances,
auxiliary gyms, baseball fields, football
fields or sports complexes. We are deeply
proud to contribute to our West Virginia
home.”
As COVID-19 continues to affect MPLX
employees, contractors and communities,
Schupbach says the company is doing its
part to help. “As part of our nation’s critical
infrastructure, we are protecting our
employees, contractors and communities
while fulfilling our responsibility to provide
the essential fuels and other products that
keep our nation running. We have a number
of protective measures in place, and we have
also donated N95 masks to local health care
facilities in areas where we operate. We’re
all in this together, and we’re proud to do
our part.”
MPLX is a diversified, growth-oriented master limited partnership formed in 2012 by Marathon Petroleum Corporation to own, operate, develop and acquire midstream
energy infrastructure assets. The company is engaged in the gathering, processing and transportation of natural gas; the gathering, transportation, fractionation, storage and
marketing of NGLs; the transportation, storage and distribution of crude oil and refined petroleum products; as well as refining logistics and fuels distribution services.
