These are the qualities that make up
I3 Engineering and Consulting, LLC,
an engineering, project management,
surveying, compliance records support
and inspection services company based in
Bridgeport, WV.
Owner David Mordan Jr. started the
company in 2013 with just one employee
and today employs a dynamic, highly
qualified staff of 38 people with more
than 300 years of combined experience
and a vast knowledge of the oil and
natural gas industries.
With more than 25 years of experience
designing and constructing natural gas
and liquids pipelines and facilities, Mordan
has managed hundreds of projects worth
billions of dollars.
“I have been in the energy industry my
entire career, living and working in places
like Texas, Virginia and Maryland before
coming to West Virginia,” he says. “I3
Engineering grew quickly over the first
several years of its existence due to the
connections I had developed along with
the vast growth that occurred due to the
Marcellus and Utica shale plays in this
area.”
Bridgeport provides an advantageous
location for this energy business. Many of
I3’s customers are within a short drive of
its office, and the company also enjoys the
ease of access to I-79, the state’s talented
workforce pool and the proximity to the
Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
“Many natural gas midstream and
transportation companies and their support
industries, including I3 Engineering, have
laid down roots here,” says Mordan. “This
is in addition to the companies that were
already here for decades as part of this
region’s proud energy heritage. Due to
our proximity to shale gas and many of
the main players’ project locations, many
business opportunities present themselves
on a consistent basis. This, coupled with
our highly qualified workforce, makes us
ideally suited to be the number one choice
for our customers when they are planning
and designing new energy projects.”
I3 Engineering provides services to
many high-profile clients throughout
the Appalachian and Mid-Atlantic
regions, including Dominion Energy,
MarkWest Energy, Williams Companies,
DTE Energy, Apex Energy Service,
EQT Midstream Partners and Beech
Resources.
“Our goal is to provide exceptional support
for our energy customers so they can
complete their projects on time and within
budget,” says Mordan. “Our projects have
ranged from pipelines of just a few hundred
feet to projects covering hundreds of miles,
but I am most proud of our work on
the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. This is an
approximately 600-mile-long pipeline that
runs from West Virginia through Virginia
and into North Carolina. I3 Engineering
has provided survey, design and engineering
services for both the pipeline and facilities
portions of the project from the time it was
first announced. This project has huge
impacts on both our local and regional
economies and is a win for the environment.
Gas transported in the pipeline will aid in
the conversion of power plants to cleanburning
natural gas, thus greatly reducing
emissions and air pollution.”
