Hundred Spires
RACHEL COFFMAN
Prague has been on my bucket list for more than 10 years,
and during that time, an infinite expectation evolved in my
mind for the City of a Hundred Spires. The ironic part of
this looming expectation was that I did not do any pre-travel
research before my departure on December 26. I wanted to
be surprised. I coveted an organic experience removed from
the burden of expectation the social media version of Prague
creates for pending travelers.
Chasing the Holiday Spirit
Prague immediately draws its visitors into its cosmopolitan
air. The city, separated into 10 major districts, is a contradiction
of modern and historic forces. I chose to stay in the historic
center close to the Old Town Square due to its proximity to
the Christmas markets. The smell of cinnamon and the sound
of carols reverberated through me on my arrival. Around the
corner from my Airbnb, the Old Town Square Christmas
