WV CONSOLIDATED LAB PROJECT
ZMM is collaborating with CannonDesign and McClaren, Wilson and Laurie, Inc. on a consolidated lab facility to connect a diverse range of operations in a more efficient space. The design team is dedicated to maintaining the highest possible standards while meeting budgetary requirements.
The 290,000 SF facility will house many important services provided by the Department of Health’ s Office of Laboratory Services, such as newborn screening, water quality and threat preparedness as well as the WV State Police Forensics Laboratory responsible for seized drugs, trace evidence, latent prints and the crime scene response unit. The facility will also contain an autopsy suite for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, testing space for the Division of Labor’ s Weights and Measures along with training space for West Virginia University and Marshall University.
With its cutting-edge design and focus on collaboration, the new consolidated lab will serve as a vital hub for scientific innovation and public safety. While the project is scheduled to be completed in 2028, this project is already serving as a recruiting tool to bring top talent to West Virginia.
WOODY WILLIAMS CENTER FOR ADVANCED LEARNING AND CAREERS
The Woody Williams Center for Advanced Learning and Careers remodels an abandoned Sears building in the Huntington Mall to an expansive, 230,000 SF educational center. With this project, ZMM will turn a once vacant, nonfunctional space into a flourishing educational center for local learners.
The center will offer many training programs in traditional technical fields like auto mechanics, welding, HVAC, plumbing, culinary arts and cosmetology as well as programs in graphic design, law and public safety, medical assisting, coding and aerospace engineering. Additionally, the facility will contain a physical education space and event venue as well as a full kitchen and dining spaces.
This location will provide residents throughout the region with top tier, essential education where students’ core classes will be tailored to their career paths and delivered in the state-of-the-art facility.
“ Moving from multiple inefficient spaces into one state-of-the-art facility will improve operations and support efforts to recruit and retain top talent.”
Rodney Pauley AIA Senior Architect, Project Manager
“ This is an extremely innovative project. It is one of the first on the east coast to use a former retail space as a career and technical center.”
