When picturing an industrial mecca , it ’ s not often that an airport first comes to mind . The North Central West Virginia Airport ( CKB ), though , makes a case to the contrary . While CKB ’ s primary focus is aviation , it has become the gold standard for diversifying airport portfolios here in the Mountain State . Boasting two industrial parks on its property , CKB fosters a hub of economic activity that boosts the entire region .
It started with the Logistics Park . Once an unused parcel of land considered unattractive by aviation standards because of runway inaccessibility , the area was transformed into an eight-acre industrial park . This space filled quickly , with aeronautical giant MHI RJ creating a home base here . Demand from others in the industry , though , continued to grow . To meet that ever-increasing need , the West Virginia AeroTech Park was created .
Incredibly , more than 3 million cubic yards of dirt was moved to create the space . Great interest has been shown in the park , with highly attractive parcels still available to tenants hoping to locate here – some pieces of the park have access to the airfield , while others are not , creating parcels that can be used for either aeronautical or non-aeronautical use . In all , this industrial expansion at CKB is expected to create more than 1,300 jobs , further solidifying it as the new face of industrial parks here in West Virginia .
