Championing the Met Coal Industry
From steel production to infrastructure development , the coal mined by MCPA members plays a pivotal role in shaping our world .
“ At the MCPA , our mission is clear : represent and advocate for the metallurgical coal industry ,” states MCPA President Ben Beakes .
With over 10,000 miners and support staff employed across 95 mines throughout the region , MCPA members are at the forefront of driving progress and supporting essential industries .
Education Traditionally , coal has been understood through its use in generating electricity . MCPA serves to expand the general public ’ s knowledge and understanding of coal ’ s prominence in everyday life . Metallurgical coal makes progress possible and is critical to the economy . Automobiles , household appliances , bridges and buildings are a few products requiring steel which is made possible by metallurgical coal . Simply put , met coal makes steel .
Advocacy
As membership grows , MCPA ’ s regional presence will reflect the expanded enterprise of its participating companies . Coal producers have a large operational footprint in central and northern Appalachia ; therefore , the association will promote and seek to expand the opportunities it has here by working with lawmakers and key stakeholders . MCPA will advocate for policies that support a future with metallurgical coal .
