About Us
The Metallurgical Coal Producers Association ( MCPA ) advocates for policies that foster and promote the long-term viability of metallurgical coal production , which is used to make steel . The MCPA is made up of six producing members , their 10,000 + employees and more than 120 associate members . It represents the majority of met coal mined in the U . S .— about 35 million tons annually from 95 met coal mines across the region .

A Regional Powerhouse
While the MCPA is a regional association representing Appalachian producers , its impact extends far beyond state lines . Coal tonnage produced by MCPA members originates exclusively from the fourstate region encompassing Kentucky , Pennsylvania , Virginia and West Virginia , with some small production amounts from other states . This focused approach allows the association to concentrate its efforts and maximize its influence where it matters most .
