EQT Unveils Plan to Unleash U . S . LNG eqt . com / responsibility / unleashing-us-lng
EQT — the nation ’ s largest producer of natural gas with operations in West Virginia , Ohio and Pennsylvania — has unveiled a plan to allow our allies to transition off of Russian energy while also significantly advancing our climate efforts by unleashing Appalachian natural gas on the international market in the form of liquefied natural gas ( LNG ).
The U . S . is blessed to have the natural gas it has . Four countries collectively have approximately twothirds of the world ’ s economically recoverable natural gas resources : the U . S ., Russia , Iran and Qatar . If we want to help our allies transition off of Russian natural gas and also help the world to transition off of foreign coal , we need to prioritize the development of domestic natural gas , specifically Appalachian natural gas .
Our plan calls for a quadrupling of U . S . LNG capacity . Achieving this target would result in a near doubling of the amount of natural gas production from the Appalachian Basin , one of the most low-cost , low-emissions natural gas fields in the world , and the results of the plan are staggering .
Not only would this amount of production growth allow Appalachia to single-handedly replace Europe ’ s reliance on Russian natural gas , but its residents would also be paid in the form of royalties through 2030 . The associated infrastructure build would not only create hundreds of thousands of high-paying jobs , but it would also position the Appalachian Basin as the epicenter of global efforts to address climate change .
Our plan to leverage domestic natural gas to replace foreign coal has the combined emissions impact of electrifying every car in the U . S ., putting solar on every home in the U . S . and doubling U . S . wind capacity . To achieve this , it will not cost U . S . taxpayers a dime .
This is the type of bold yet practical solution we need to prioritize as a country . It checks all the boxes :
• It allows the U . S . to recapture energy dominance while weakening the dominance of our adversaries .
• It provides a solution to the global undersupply of energy that is resulting in increasing costs to citizens and driving extreme inflation .
• It represents the largest single initiative to address climate change ever proposed .
All we need to do to achieve this is to build pipelines and LNG facilities , things we have been doing for decades .
