In 2000 , the McDonalds were the first to sign the licensing agreement to allow the Hatfield McCoy Trail System to be built , which was truly a leap of faith due to the liability concerns any company would have for this type of activity . Many landowners followed their lead , and today the Hatfield McCoy Trail System is by far the largest tourist attraction in the state . Its growth continues at an unbelievable pace , and recently the McDonalds announced their intention to build the largest lodging facility thus far along the system .
