STUDENT SUCCESS, WORKFORCE READY
Pierpont Community & Technical College is continuing to strengthen its role as a leader in education and workforce development across North Central West Virginia. Over the past year, the college has made significant progress in enrollment, program innovation and community partnerships, all while staying true to its mission of providing affordable, high-quality education.
Pierpont recently adopted a new strategic plan, approved by its board of governors, that focuses on four core pillars: programs, people, partners and performance. This vision is already producing results.
The West Virginia Invests grant program has provided over $ 7 million to help students access education without financial barriers. Apprenticeship opportunities grew through the Learn and Earn program, and a $ 1.5 million federal grant is establishing a virtual reality lab to enhance immersive learning across various programs.
Pierpont’ s Career and Corporate Training( CCT) division continues to grow its reach and influence. With more than 20 career training programs and enrollment doubling in fiscal year 2024, CCT provides accelerated pathways, stackable micro-credentials and industry-aligned certifications. As an NC3 Leadership School, Pierpont offers competency-based training in safety, manufacturing, robotics and welding— giving students in-demand skills and nationally recognized credentials. Mobile training units and expanded programs in rural areas like Braxton County
make high-quality workforce education accessible throughout the region.
To support student success, Pierpont added several new roles, including a student success coach for nursing, a career services navigator and two virtual reality specialists. The college also hosted multiple career fairs to connect students with employers in both general and specialized fields.
Looking ahead, Pierpont will continue to expand career pathways, strengthen industry partnerships and ensure every student has a clear, accessible route to success.
“ At its heart, Pierpont is about opportunity— helping students build brighter futures and strengthening the workforce that drives our region’ s success,” says Dr. Michael Waide, interim president of Pierpont.“ I look forward to working alongside our faculty, staff, students and community partners to ensure that Pierpont remains a leader in education and workforce development for years to come.”
