REDEFINING SCHOOL FOR WV

This spring, West Virginia Virtual Academy( WVVA) proudly celebrated its very first graduating class— 117 students who proved a different way of learning can open doors to brighter futures. Since launching in 2022 with just 400 students, WVVA has quickly grown to serve more than 2,000 learners statewide, offering a tuition-free, online public charter school for grades K – 12. At the heart of WVVA is one simple mission: give families a choice.
“ This class represents more than academic success,” says Doug Cipoletti, executive director of the WVVA.“ It shows that West Virginia is ready to lead in modern education.”
Why Parents Choose WVVA For many families, WVVA means flexibility.
Students can learn at their own pace, on their own schedule and in the comfort of home. That flexibility also helps students balance school with work, athletics or personal goals. Parents often find comfort in knowing their child is learning in a safe, supportive environment, free from distractions like bullying.
WVVA also provides real savings and value. Through partnerships like Pierpont Community & Technical College, students can graduate high school with college credits, or even an associate degree, giving them a head start without the added expense. Families can also choose career certification pathways that prepare students for the workforce right after graduation.
Parents see the results every day.
Student Trailblazers
“ Going online was the best option,” Averi, U. S. Marine Corps enlistee, says.“ The teachers are nice, there’ s no bullying, and I had the time to focus on what matters.”
Allyson, a National Honor Society leader, called being part of the first class something really special. Skylar, from Huntington, balanced school and work seamlessly thanks to WVVA’ s flexible schedule.
A Legacy of Learning at Home
WVVA’ s first graduating class has shown that online learning doesn’ t mean learning alone— it means personalized attention, safe environments and opportunities that last a lifetime.
“ Our graduates are trailblazers,” says Academic Administrator Cheryl Stahle.“ They’ ve set the tone for what WVVA can be.”
For West Virginia families, WVVA is more than a school— it’ s a future-focused choice that works.
