Justice Recognizes Kenna and Evans
Elementary Schools as Top Performers
Governor Jim Justice recently joined state and county educa-
tion leaders at Kenna Elementary School in Kanawha County
and Evans Elementary School in Jackson County to celebrate
their academic achievements as the top-performing schools in
West Virginia on the statewide Balanced Scorecard Account-
ability System.
The balanced scorecard paints a picture of where schools
are succeeding and indicates areas where they need to improve.
Every elementary, middle and high school in the state receives a
balanced scorecard each year that looks at five areas: English/
language arts performance, English/language arts progress,
math performance, math progress and attendance. Kenna and
Evans elementary schools were top of the class this year, and
Kenna was the only school in the state to exceed standards in
all five categories.
