INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEES

Dr Stephen Wanless , Faculty of Health , Education and Life Sciences , Birmingham City University Stephen is an Associate Professor in Biomechanics and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention within the Centre of Excellence in Posture , Movement and Handling , and co-ordinates the provision of advice , training and guidance for all undergraduate healthcare students in the faculty , as well as acting as a consultant for industry and health organisations . His research focuses on using high end technology to bring about behaviour change through the use of external stimulus and has been published and presented nationally and internationally .
Hamid Zolfagharinia , Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Hamid is a clinical scientist by background , trained in the design of medical electronic instrumentation , physiological measurements and management of medical devices . Hamid was a member of the Clinical Engineering Specialist Interest Group of IPEM for four years and chaired the group for the final year . He also has extensive experience in the management of medical devices and databases .
Alan Press , Kimal Plc Alan has built an impressive network of influential companies , clinicians and researchers over the years from Sales Manager to MD all of the way through to CEO . As CEO , Alan uses these connections to find out what the patients and clinicians ’ requirements actually are and not just to follow trends in the market . Alan travels globally talking to these people developing these ideas from a uniquely innovative perspective and wherever possible being disruptive for the benefit of all .
John Uttley , Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit ( CSU ) John has 18 years ’ NHS experience across primary and secondary care , including CIO / deputy director roles in the CSU , primary care and Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust respectively . An Honorary Research Fellow , speaker and author , John has a remarkable track record in turning innovation into tangible benefits , such as the first data warehouse and tracking saving £ 6m .
Louise Lander , Moor Green Outpatient Brain Injury Unit Since qualifying in 2007 , Louise has developed a breadth and depth of experience in working with adults with acquired communication difficulties , especially poststroke aphasia . Her intention is to offer patients the possibility to improve language ability , contrasting with the historic perceived wisdom that this population is unable to make further rehabilitative gains .
Yvonne Higgins , NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group Yvonne an experienced nurse , having over 10 years ’ experience working within the NHS . During this time , she has worked as a community matron and is currently employed as an advanced nurse practitioner . Over the past three years , Yvonne has worked in partnership with the independent care home sector to raise standards , improve quality and safety for residents in the independent care homes sector and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions .
Kate Gee , University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Kate has been a Nurse Consultant for over 10 years and has published several papers in that time . She has an MSc in advanced nursing practice and a doctorial in Health Science , from the University of Nottingham . Not content with that , she is now doing a diploma in syncope at the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland .
Professor Richard King , University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust ( UHCW ) Richard King is the Clinical Lead for Innovation at UHCW . He is passionate about doing things differently and is committed to creating tomorrow ’ s healthcare through innovation . Richard ’ s honorary appointment at the University of Warwick as a Clinical Innovation Faculty Lead , is a role dedicated to establishing and nurturing innovative collaborations between the university and the trust . Richard is also a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at UHCW .
Professor Ian A Cree , University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Ian is a pathologist at UHCW , Visiting Professor at Coventry University and an Honorary Professor of Pathology at the Institute of Ophthalmology , UCL . He also chairs the Research Committee of the Royal College of Pathologists . Trained as a general pathologist with a PhD in immunology , Ian ’ s research career has been based on investigating disease mechanisms to improve diagnosis and treatment , particularly for cancer . He has a developed a number of molecular diagnostics methods and leads the UK Early Cancer Detection Consortium .

6PM Group 6PM employs more 170 technology consultants and was founded in 1996 by Maltese entrepreneur Ivan Bartolo . 6PM Limited was registered in 2001 and five years later , 6PM Management Consultancy ( UK ) Ltd was set up in the UK . The two companies were brought together under 6PM Holdings in 2007 . During 2015 , the 6PM Group acquired Blithe Computer Systems a market leading supplier of IT solutions to both the sexual health and substance misuse sectors , with over 700 installations throughout the UK .
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust ( BSMHFT ) BSMHFT serves a culturally and socially diverse million plus population spread over 172 square miles , and has an income of over £ 230 million , making the trust one of the largest mental health foundation trusts in the country . We also provide services to people who live further afield because of some of the specialised services we provide , such as neuropsychiatry and perinatal mental health .
Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust ( BCHC ) BCHC provides accessible and responsive community and specialist healthcare services in the city of Birmingham and to the wider West Midlands region . With approximately 5,000 employees , the trust is among the largest community healthcare providers in England , delivering more than 100 clinical services in a wide range of inpatient settings , clinics and in people ’ s homes .
Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council serves a population of around 310,000 people in the Black Country to the north west of Birmingham . One way in which the Office of Public Health within the council is addressing local health problems is to understand barriers to screening and help to increase uptake rates of NHS screening programs .

Primary Care Musculoskeletal Research Consortium Our objective is to ensure research is relevant to the NHS and its patients , primary care research capacity is developed across Keele University and the NHS to support the development and delivery of evidence based healthcare , and key results of research are translated into practice .
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust The trust ’ s mission is to ‘ Care , Achieve , Innovate ’ and to that end , innovation is embedded as part of core business . The trust has International Centre of Excellence Status for both its Digital Pathology Services ( in conjunction with Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust , it was the first trust to use digitised slides in the country ) and for the treatment of endocrine tumours .
UK-PBC The UK-PBC is a network of lead project investigators and multiple local collaborators working together to establish a large cohort of high-throughput genetic studies and establish a national trial resource . The organisation is split into various work strands : recruitment , phenotyping and disease stratification , mechanisms of UDCA non-response , and the user interface .
