A wealth of parks to visit and enjoy
From scenic lakeshores to wooded trails and open green spaces, the west Lake Minnetonka area offers a wide variety of parks and natural areas for residents and visitors to explore. Whether enjoying a neighborhood park, walking a lakeside trail or spending a day at a regional destination, outdoor recreation is a central part of life in the community.
Local cities maintain a number of parks that provide access to the outdoors, including popular destinations such as Nelson Lakeside Park in Long Lake, Surfside Park in Mound and Lurton Dog Park in Orono. These spaces offer amenities ranging from beaches and picnic areas to playgrounds, trails and dog-friendly environments, making them accessible to residents of all ages.
In addition to municipal parks, the area is home to several major regional destinations operated by the Three Rivers Park District.
Gale Woods Farm
Located on the shores of Whaletail Lake in Minnetrista, Gale Woods Farm offers a unique opportunity to experience a working educational farm within a park setting. Visitors can explore gardens, farm animals and walking trails, or participate in classes and seasonal events that highlight sustainable agriculture and local food systems.

Baker Park Reserve
Spanning more than 2,700 acres along Lake Independence, Baker Park Reserve is one of the largest and most diverse park destinations in the region. The park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, including beaches, picnic areas, campgrounds, trails and winter activities.

Lake Minnetonka Regional Park
Located along the western shore of Lake Minnetonka in Minnetrista, this park offers one of the area’ s most popular family-friendly destinations. The park features a large, nature-inspired playground, walking trails and a unique chlorinated swimming pond with a sandy beach.

Noerenberg Memorial Gardens
Situated along the shores of Crystal Bay on Lake Minnetonka, Noerenberg Memorial Gardens is widely known for its beautifully maintained floral displays and peaceful setting. The gardens feature a variety of plantings, walking paths and scenic overlooks that highlight the natural beauty of the area.
