shows up for work at least one day a week . In 2016 , Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics got involved with West Head . They were supplying our customers with mechanic services , engines , and transmissions , and by the nature of what we both do , we came in contact and began developing a relationship on a business level . We then worked with them to support our builds through the provision and installation of engines and transmissions . This has continued throughout the last seven years and resulted in the formation of a valuable partnership .
Both West Head and our customers primarily purchase engines from Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics . And for Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics , the engine purchasing process starts with the customer . Most of the time , either West Head or our customers will reach out to Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics and describe their situation , their needs , and the vessel in progress . Corey and his team then determine the best fit and application for the vessel that will meet its needs and support its intended use .
Once they ’ ve determined which engine package is suitable for the customer ,

keeping in mind the customer is probably getting quotations and packages from competitors , the team at Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics will discuss a suitable timeline for delivery and installation of the engine and a variety of accessories that are specific to the commercial industry . It takes about a week or so to prepare an engine and transmission once they arrive at the shop .
The process for marine diesel repair is similar . The customer reaches out to Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics and works with the team to determine the needs of the vessel , whether or not an engine or transmission is required , and how quickly they can get back on the water .
The big thing Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics has going for them is familiarity with the area and familiarity with the industries that they serve . They are also a familyrun business , so you can feel good about working with them and supporting a local family . Many in Paul ’ s family works there , and everyone that works there is native to Cape Sable Island .
Paul also has a unique business outlook that works to support his customers . Having been a moonlighter for many years , Paul knows the necessity of being there when a customer needs him . His team tries to provide that level of service to every single one of their customers , and they believe that ’ s what they ’ re looking for . Corey still carries that philosophy today . Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics will answer the phone after hours to identify , diagnose , and e ffect repairs , whether that ’ s talking the customer through it over the phone while they ’ re out fishing or gathering supplies to meet them and the vessel at the wharf .
It ’ s always a challenge for Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics to deal with boat shops because there are multiple entities involved : their business , the boat shop , the engine supplier , other system suppliers , and the customer . With West Head , they ’ ve worked with us to overcome hurdles together and learned when to be proactive and when to be reactive to things that need to change . That can be anything from a customer changing the way they want to run their hydraulics to a new decision with regard to the type of fishery a boat will be engaged in .
We ’ re happy to work with Paul ’ s Mobile Mechanics , and we look forward to introducing them to you on your next build .
