Design and Build Medical Devices
DESCRIPTION
About this 5-day masterclass divided into five sessions
Objectives:
Participants will be organized in teams where they will apply the basics of design skills, problem-solving, and workshop
skills to make a prototype of a device of their selection. The devices should follow the general theme of the WEP 2020
program: “Personalized Medicine.”
During this course, participants will acquire hands-on experience in product research, design, building, and making a pro-
totype, and delivering on a limited time, schedule, and budget.
Each team will have a $500 budget for them to work. The teams can spend the budget on inventory or materials to make
their prototypes at the Prototyping Core Lab, or for other expenses and purchases.
The course will begin by introducing the general objective and target. Then, participants will be trained on using the basic
prototyping tools and equipment available at the Prototyping Core Lab. Including; laser cutters, 3D printers, water jet, 3D
modeling, and others. The participating team will have technical support and assistance from the team at the Prototyping
Core Lab, but they are expected to do most of the work themselves.
