and under construction.
The Justin P. Wilson Cumberland
Trail State Park is the state’s first
linear state park, running from
the Cumberland Gap bordering
Kentucky all the way to Marion
County near the Georgia-Tennessee
border.
The Cumberland Trail enters
Cumberland County from Morgan
County in the mountains east
of Fairfield Glade at the Devil’s
Breakfast Table trailhead. The trail
then takes a break until the Daddy’s
Creek trailhead in southeastern
Fairfield Glade and travels south to
Crab Orchard, where construction
is currently underway to lengthen
the trail.
Hikers can pick back up on the
Cumberland Trail at Black Mountain
in Crab Orchard. Black Mountain’s
trail runs southwest to the Brady
Mountain trailhead at Hwy. 68 above
Grassy Cove.
From the Brady Mountain
trailhead, the trail continues
southwest, as hikers will begin a
steep incline up Brady Mountain,
overlooking Grassy Cove to
the east. The overlook, located
approximately 2.3 miles from
Hwy. 68, offers a view of Grassy
Cove in the foreground and the
Appalachian Mountains in the
distant background, a distance of
approximately 70 miles.
Following the Brady Mountain trail
further south will lead hikers to the
Head of the Sequatchie trailhead,
which leads to the beginning of the
Sequatchie River and the current
end of Cumberland County’s portion
of the Cumberland Trial.
