Now, I am not saying that everyone is lying when they say they are sticking to their diet – I have had clients who clearly were telling the truth. What I am saying is that while we are on a traditional low energy diet most of us end up sneaking in little treats. All I am doing with the Low Sacrifice Diet – because most people do it anyway – is formalizing this arrangement. I prescribe the eating of forbidden foods for all of my weight-loss clients. I’ m bringing it out of the closet and factoring it into the organization of our new eating lifestyle, so that we are more likely to stick to it long-term. Make the most of your forbidden foods There are two other very important reasons for making eating forbidden foods part of our eating lifestyle. Nearly everybody who is trying to lose weight tells me that when they eat their forbidden foods the dominant emotion they feel at the time is GUILT and the dominant behavior is to EAT QUICKLY. One of my dearest friends told me how she had a fetish for sweets. Her partner at the time would get them in bulk from a business that he worked for. Knowing of her addiction, he would get increasingly wily in hiding the sweets, while she just got more determined in hunting them down. Finding them became an obsession. When she finally tore the house apart and found them, she would pour them down her throat like water after being lost in the desert for weeks on end. When I suggested they must have tasted good after all that hunting, she looked at me as if I was an idiot and said,‘ What are you talking about? I was way too guilty to slow down and taste them!’ What a disaster this is! Isn’ t it a little bit insane for us to not enjoy our most favorite of foods and put on weight for the privilege! As I generally try to behave insanely only when absolutely necessary, it seems to make sense to me to embrace forbidden foods – which are the foods we love –
