NQ DRY TROPICS WEED FREE
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
The first step towards a weed-free property is being able to easily identify them . Weeds can be mistaken for native plants and vice versa , because they can look similar .
Weed Free is a guide that will help you recognise and remove weeds from your property or backyard . It contains detailed descriptions of weed species , and information on how they spread and what you can do about them . New weeds arrive in our region every year via birds , animals , people , vehicles , wind , and water . Weed Free aims to help you spot them before they become a problem in your patch .
Weeds have changed the Australian landscape and are estimated to be costing Australian agriculture $ 4.3 billion per year . Being weed-free would improve the productivity of farming and grazing properties and help native flora and fauna .
The cost of entirely wiping weeds out in Australia would exceed our gross national income , but with the right tools and information , it is possible to eradicate weeds on a smaller , property scale .
The weeds highlighted in this book are rated by the Burdekin Dry Tropics Regional Pest Management Group as high-priority species that pose a significant threat to North Queensland .
