Nearly 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the U.S., its territories and on U.S. military installations around the world open their doors to help youth find their great futures. March 12. GOT TALENT? 13. COLLEGE TOURS UC, CSU or private? Teens get to see what college life looks like first hand. Teens join us to tour campuses from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Spring 14. BOYS & GIRLS CLUB WEEK Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice Kick off the start of aca- demic year with a visit to the BGCV to meet the staff, tour our building, and learn about Fall pro- grams. We’ll even serve dinner and frozen yogurt. Fall Childhood obesity is a growing problem, and BGCV is working hard to help reverse the trend with programs that pro- mote physical activity and nutrition education. GOT Talent is a quarterly series of talent shows and open mic events at the Club. They provide opportunities for Club members who are partic- ipating in our Fine and Performing Art programs to showcase their tal- ents. Join us for inspiring performances by Club members, as well as sur- prise performances and lectures by guest artists, dancers, and musicians. Year-round Corporations and other groups who are looking for an opportunity to give back to their community by completing a “Day of Service” are welcome over the Summer. Work hands on with our kids at a beach clean-up, build out a Summer field day, or joining the teens for a trust and leadership high ropes challenge. With no set model for the day, we work with you to organ- ize a day that best fits the parameters of your group while fulling a Club need. National Fitness Competition 10. SET SAIL – AWARDS CEREMONY AND FUNDRAISER BGCV is hosting a special fundraiser to benefit its one-of-a-kind Sailing and Kayaking program. Join us as we honor signifi- cant individuals or or- ganizations that provide our youth with access to sailing and the pleasures of our beautiful coastline and marine wildlife. Spring (STEM). BGCV’s nation- ally-recognized STEM programs provide dozens of activities that range in complexity to peak curiosity and in- spire all Club members. Fall BGCV first and second graders take a field trip every week to the Venice Library during our Sum- mer Program and partici- pate in a variety of activities. This year our young members were able to build a city out of recyclable materials, learn the science behind bubbles, and learn hip- hop with an amazing in- structor. Summer 20.KOBE BRYANT MAMBA LEAGUE BGCV uses the quarterly National Fitness Compe- titions to help Club mem- bers set short-term tangible health and fit- ness goals. SENIOR SOCIAL Stemfest celebrates innovations in science technology, engineering, and mathematics A special send-off for graduating Seniors de- signed to celebrate their Last year BGCV middle school members were able to be a part of the Nike sponsored Kobe Bryant Mamba League. Sporting brand new Nike and Kobe Bryant attire, our members competed in one game a week. With a total of seven teams, both male and fe- male, our Club advanced to the finals and one lucky team was able to meet Kobe Bryant! 23
