What To Know Before You Ride

HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS This is a family-friendly ride with no height requirements . My fourand seven-year-old sons both gave applauding reviews after their ride experience and asked if we could ride again . Children who are too young to sit by themselves can sit in an adult ’ s lap .
WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR : Despite the ride being super smooth , guests prone to motion sickness may need to proceed with caution as this ride does spin , tilt , and bounce . This is a 3D experience and largely in the dark ; there are a few scenes that may be a little frightening for younger guests .
Guests must obtain a boarding group via the My Disney Experience app to ride . Each guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day .
After the rooftop scene , you enter a cozy artist loft with paintings of food and Paris on the walls . The music from the movie grows more distinctive at this point , and as a mega fan , I became enveloped in my own fond memories of the movie my first time through this room .
Don ’ t miss it : The canvas on the easel comes to life with the cutest sketches of a rat family demonstrating the ride loading instructions .
At the end of the queue , you ’ ll grab a pair of 3D glasses before being sorted into numbered rows . This is where you shrink down to rat size — notice that the light fixtures suddenly become much larger to sell the idea of your smaller size .
As you pass through this studio space in the queue , take note of the canvas , which comes to life with instructional illustrations for ride vehicle boarding . PHOTO BY COURTNEY REYNOLDS
First , there is the Remy vehicle in his grayish-blue color ; he actually spins the least . Keep this in mind : If you are prone to motion sickness , Remy ’ s your guy . Remy ’ s brother Emile ( brown rat ) and the purple rat , on the other hand , both like to add extra spins throughout the ride . This is another detail the Imagineers added to show the different personalities between Remy and Emile .
There are two rows with three seats in each ride vehicle , accommodating six guests ( or more if there are lap seaters ). Riders are secured with a lap bar .
Unfortunately , Chef Skinner sees you , and you ’ ll have to escape his clutches by racing through the tight corners of the walls until finding safety at Remy ’ s restaurant .
Imagineers thought of so many creative ways to fully transport the guest into Remy ’ s world in the queue , but the real magic happens during the ride . The 3D scenes , played out on massive screens , transport you into the film . These huge screens blend with large props to provide an immersive experience full of sights , sounds , smells , and feels .
REMY , EMILE , AND A PURPLE RAT The trackless ride vehicles are similar to those in Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie ’ s Runaway Railway at Disney ’ s Hollywood Studios . It took me a few rides to notice that there are three different ride vehicles and each one behaves differently .
WELCOME TO THE RAT RACE OK , so you ’ re a rat ! Now what ?
Just like in the movie , you will navigate through the human world from a rat ’ s-eye view . Turns out , it ’ s dangerous to make it as a hungry rat in a fast-paced kitchen with busy chefs and restaurant guests .
My favorite scene is the pantry , where you ' re not only surprised by the large food sets but also the different scents that emerge from them . Other elements such as water , heat from the fire , and bursts of air make it all feel exciting and authentic .
