Underrated Pixar Characters

BY TRISHA DAAB
They ’ re not on every T-shirt or toy , and you won ’ t be getting their autograph at Disney Parks , but these underrated Pixar characters share a special place in our hearts .
Rex , the dinosaur from the Toy Story movies
With his big head , little arms , and several neuroses , Rex gave those of us who don ’ t always feel brave a toy we could relate to . It ’ s Rex ’ s tail that repeatedly saves Andy ’ s toys . It knocks Zurg down the elevator shaft in Toy Story 2 , and in Toy Story 3 , it opens the bag full of toys that Andy ’ s mom almost throws away . Just when you think you can put aside the tissues after the landfill scene in Toy Story 3 , it ’ s Rex ’ s heartfelt “ Woody , take care of Andy ,” that gets us sniffling once more . Find Rex hanging lights with Jessie in Toy Story Land .
PR-T , the beautician-bot on the Axiom from WALL • E
WALL • E not only showed us a robot could have feelings ; he also made us want to hug a ( fancy ) trash compactor . Helping WALL • E along the way is a group of misfit robots , including PR-T . WALL • E may be cute from the get-go , but the malfunctioning PR-T in the Axiom Repair Ward gives him an adorable makeover with Bambi-worthy eyelashes and blue eyeshadow . And later , while she ’ s applying blush with one of her 12 accessory-wielding arms , she attacks the SECUR-T bots , freeing EVE so she and WALL • E can save the world .
Kevin ( aka Snipe ), exotic chocolate-loving bird in UP
Rescuing the beautifully colorful Kevin and reuniting her ( yep , her ) with her babies is the adventure that Carl never knew he needed . Kevin gives us all the feels when she snuggles Russell on her belly when they first meet , makes us cry when she is injured and calls out for her babies , and leaves us with happy tears when she is reunited with her family . She is Russell ’ s feathered sidekick in transforming Carl from lonely , sad curmudgeon to caring , cane-free , curbsitting old man . Find Kevin wandering around Animal Kingdom ’ s Discovery Island . She loves to photo bomb !
Colette Tatou , chef at Gusteau ’ s in Ratatouille
Who runs the world kitchen at Gusteau ’ s ? Girls ! Colette is the sole woman in an otherwise all-male kitchen , and if there ’ s a problem , Colette solves it . Train the new guy , Colette . Be the voice of calm when Anton Ego dines , Colette . Manage humans and hundreds of rats to produce a Michelin star-quality French meal , Colette . It ’ s once Colette accepts Remy ’ s skills that we truly know that anyone ( even a rat ) can cook . Peek over by the mint-green patisserie building near the entrance to Remy ’ s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT to see Colette ’ s black motorcycle .
Princes Hubert , Hamish , and Harris in Brave
Brave , which turns 10 next month , isn ’ t your typical Disney Princess movie . The prince doesn ’ t save the day , Merida hates dresses , and her animal sidekicks are the princes , who , because of cake , are bear cubs . They top our list because of the epically hilarious battle scene they start , a highlight of the whole film . There are kilts and bearded shirtless men smacking each other , all while bagpipes relentlessly play in the background . The wee devil bear cubs used to appear on Merida ’ s float in Magic Kingdom ’ s Festival of Fantasy parade , but nowadays , Merida travels in the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade .
