A portrait of the four artists in the show .
The show includes more than 750 costume pieces .
Though you may not catch them all from your seat , the sets are full of small details that draw the story to life .
During Page to Stage , you ’ ll get to meet one or more performers .
Upon stepping backstage , we met two of the talented performers , who detailed their background with Cirque and gave us a closer look at the costumes and makeup detailing . Each performer applies their own makeup before the show , using an in-depth tutorial initially created as Drawn to Life was still being , well , drawn to life . The performers also shared that their costumes were but two of more than 750-plus pieces designed for the show . Each costume intentionally evokes the art of animation , with designs printed on a washable , breathable fabric that allows the artists to perform acrobatics and stunts .
ALWAYS ROOM FOR ONE MORE The tour next took us through the halls to see a space where the performers could practice ( or play table tennis , if they ’ re bored ), as well as extensive spots for laundering costumes , dressing rooms , and bulletin boards . We stepped beneath the stage where you could see where the “ pillow ” character enters during the start of the show , as well as where all of the animator ’ s desks were set to fly up and down . Our guide pointed out interesting details and behind-the-scenes facts along the way , stopping to answer any questions we had .
What was perhaps most shocking about the inner workings of the show was seeing how much the space gets used . From outside , the Cirque du Soleil theater may seem large in scale , but backstage , you ’ ll find that every square inch of space has been well-loved , filled to the brim with props , costumes , set pieces , and more .
A TOUR TO CONSIDER While many people may see a peek behind the curtain as spoiling the illusion , I ’ ve never found this to be the case when it comes to Disney . Whether it ’ s a tour of the savanna at Disney ’ s Animal Kingdom , or diving into the Seas of EPCOT , every tour I ’ ve taken at Walt Disney World has left me wanting to do the experience again , simply so I can see it through fresh eyes , knowing how they pull off specific feats .
Going backstage with the Page to Stage tour was no exception . I came away with a renewed love for the pure theatrical magic that only Disney and Cirque together can create .
