EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A CAT The Scat Cat Lounge is one of my favorite spaces on board . I ’ d gladly take a cocktail by the piano here over a specially brewed beer at the Haunted Mansion Parlor , which is an epic space in its own right . But what makes Scat Cat Lounge so special is the level of detail that went into its design ( and its drinks ).
“ On the piano , you ’ ll see some paw prints ,” said Katrina Alvarez , Principal Interior Designer , Walt Disney Imagineering . “ The team studied the dance moves of Thomas O ’ Malley , Scat Cat , and Marie ,” and the paw prints on the propped-open lid of the piano mimic how their paws move when they dance in the film .
Also in Scat Cat , you can search , not for hidden Mickeys , but for hidden Roqueforts ; three lurk in the elegant wallpaper throughout the lounge . The design of the rugs , chairs , and floors is inspired by piano keys , but it ’ s the drinking glasses for the signature cocktails , with cat faces in the bottoms , that are perhaps my favorite detail .
Because you can enjoy drinks from Scat Cat at a bar outside the lounge proper , with chairs that are practically in the atrium , Imagineers felt it was important that the Moroccan inspiration for the Grand Hall more gradually bleed into the Scat Cat space . You ’ ll find colorful Moroccan-inspired glass on display outside the lounge , with some handblown vases perched alongside glass cats , to mark this transition .
Details abound in Scat Cat Lounge , but this cat face in the bottom of the glass may be our favorite .
