December has brought the Disney community a wonderful happiness and great
sadness as it hosts both the birth of Walt Disney as well as his death. However, many
great things have happened in Walt Disney history during the month of December. Be
sure to check out a shortened list of openings.
December 17, 1973: Pirates of the Caribbean opened at the Magic Kingdom.
December 15, 1989: Star Tours: The Adventures Continue officially opened at
Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
December 14, 2003: Pop Century Resort opened.
December 1, 2007: Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade debuted at the
Magic Kingdom.
December 20, 1991: Disney’s Old Key West Resort opened.
December 6, 2012: Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid officially
opened at the Magic Kingdom.
