WDW Magazine April 2016 - Disney's Hollywood Studios | Page 126

At the end of Hollywood Boulevard sits a statue of a movie director accompanied by a plaque dedicating the park. The park’s original name–Disney-MGM Studios—can be found on the plaque. In 2008, a blue frame with the park’s new name was placed around the plaque, but the old name can still clearly be seen. Inside the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant are caricatures of Hollywood celebrities hanging on the walls. The caricatures in black frames are copies but the ones in gold frames are original drawings! When you enter the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! queue, you may notice a tripod sitting over a hole, with a sign that reads “Warning! Do not pull rope!” Do it—pull it! Find out what happens! Disney is notorious for adding fun little elements of surprise, there’s so much to discover! Take a look at the wall tiles in the Egyptian section of The Great Movie Ride. You’ll notice that some tiles display hidden Mickey’s and even Star Wars characters mixed in with the traditional hieroglyphics. Did you know there are 2 different versions of The Great Movie Ride? Most guests experience Show “B”, where a gangster hijacks your vehicle and takes over the second leg of your ride. However, if you’re lucky enough (or if you ask a Cast Member to experience Show “A”) you’ll pass right through the gangster area and enter a Western scene. In the Western scene, you’ll witness a large explosion at the bank with quite a bit of fire!
