F rom the Archivist’s corner, two small corrections ought to be made to a couple of items in the last issue of Monitor, No. 60: Page 3: a Lord Mayor’s visit to the WCIT Hall This should have reported that this was the first official visit to the WCIT Hall by an incumbent Lord Mayor since the Hall had had the honour of being officially opened by the incumbent Lord Mayor, Sir David Howard, on 20th September, 2001. More recently, of course, Junior Warden Sir David Wootton will have visited the Hall on numerous occasions during his year when Lord Mayor, but these visits would not have been in an officia l capacity as incumbent Lord Mayor. Page 14: Tony Sale and Bletchley Park Tony Sale was not a founder member of the WCIT. In fact, Tony was quite late in joining the WCIT, not becoming a Freeman until 16th January 2008, and remaining a Freeman. As it happens, your Archivist knew Tony from 1975, when he was already a senior member of the Bedfordshire Branch of the British Computer Society. Always very modest about his achievements, Tony’s greatest ones were then to come – including building a replica of the Colossus computer – to the extent that they earned him a full page obituary in The Times on 1st September, 2011. Readers who wish to know more about his life and great achievements should find them there. The Hall provides excellent catering whether a sandwich lunch, buffet or an à la carte dinner with helpful and considerate staff to assist and advise on individual requirements.
