Whanganui Technical College Old Boy visits the School

While the 1 st XV was over in Brisbane they were visited by a Whanganui Technical College old boy, Basil Harris. He watched their game against a very strong Brisbane State High School team and was suitably impressed with our team. He has recently returned to Whanganui for a holiday and came by the other day to touch base. While the boys were in Australia I received the email below from Basil and I thought I would share it with you all.

On behalf of the team, the management, and our school community I would like to

thank Basil for his kind words.

Kia tau te Rangimarie.

“My name is  Basil Harris, 1954-56, and I am currently living on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Today my club Maroochydore Rugby had the pleasure of hosting the game between City College and Qld State High School. The game was played in drizzling rain and unfortunately the result 41-20 went against us but the boys played well considering the size of the opposition and that they were playing the equivalent of someone like Wellington College. They stuck to the task and scored all their 17 points in the 2nd half and one of the things was they ran the ball as much as possible and didn't kick the ball back, they ran it. I spoke to them in the change room before the game and had my photo taken with them afterwards.

They came out dressed in uniform with their ties on and made an old boy very proud. I visit Wanganui quite regularly but have not been to the School since the Centenary in 2011. If the rest of the School conducts itself like these young men you must be doing a great job.  Regards,

 Basil”
