THE BIG PICTURE ACCESSORY MORE METAL Instead of gallery walls of small artworks and pictures, the trend this year is towards large, eye-catching images. “Decorative floor mirrors that aren’t shy about making a statement in any room are a standout in 2019,” says ThorpeLee. This family room, with its pearlized leather upholstery and metal accents in the end table and lighting, reflects “glam comfort,” says Amani ThorpeLee, sales director of Ethan Allen in Wayne. TEXTURED TILES “Customers are using flat tiles with corresponding textured tiles,” says Bushoven. “They might use the textured ones behind a vanity or as the back wall of a shower, and then use plain tiles to correspond with them. There’s a wow factor, and then something softer to go with it, without being crazy with color.” THE NEW BLACK WINDOWS Black window frames are controversial, but they’re trending for 2019. They stand out particularly well against gray or white walls, so for maximum effect, they shouldn’t be covered up by curtains. BOLD WALLPAPER “Grass cloth wallpaper has been a longtime staple for interior designers,” says ThorpeLee. This year, she says, textured wallpaper is popular, including this paper, which is layered with metallic on top of grass cloth “for an unexpected mix.” ■
