From the main central chimney , which has been capped in copper , the family can see Pompton Lakes laid out before them . The home ’ s location is directly across the street from Albert Payson Terhune Memorial Park , the former setting of the beloved author ’ s Sunnybank estate where two of his pets , Lad and Lassie , are buried , and where numerous dog shows are held annually . Cecil B . DeMille , the director whose family owned the property upon which 3 Sunny Knolls now sits , was Terhune ’ s friend , and wrote admiringly of his teaching the neighborhood kids “ how to read the wonder of all living things in woods and fields and lakes ” surrounding their properties . ■
