“People are living longer and healthier,” observes Dr. Charles S. Reing.
“As a result, cataracts have become a common problem and the demand for
cataract surgery has increased. Thanks to recent advancements in ophthalmology, we are now able to offer our patients laser-assisted, state-of-the-art
technology. Toric implants to correct astigmatism, plus Crystalens® and
ReSTOR® lenses can improve both distance and near vision, offering patients
permanent freedom from eye glasses.”
“These procedures are very delicate and precise to perform, but seeing
the benefits and the results of restoring a patient’s eyesight is extremely
rewarding,” he adds.
Reflecting the caliber of expertise and diversity of services available
through Advanced Eye Care Center, a full service, comprehensive ophthalmology practice, Dr. Reing, along with his colleagues, Drs. Nancy Choo and
Geeta Garg, have been singled out for recognition as this year’s Top Doctors.
For patient convenience and comfort, all cataract surgeries, performed on
an outpatient basis, are usually performed using only topical anesthetics,
resulting in a more rapid recovery. Along with cataract and corneal transplant
surgery, Dr. Reing, the chairman of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph’s Wayne
Hospital, has expertise in laser vision corrective surgeries, such as LASIK. He
also serves as a clinical instructor at Manhattan’s Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Completing a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery,
Dr. Choo has published and participated as an investigator in numerous clinical trials. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and The State University of
New York Health Center in Syracuse, and she has chosen to specialize in
general ophthalmology and cornea transplants. While most of Dr. Choo’s

extensive experience in clinical research, including a stint as clinical research
coordinator in the Department of Ophthalmology at George Washington
University Medical School. She also completed a research internship at the
Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicine in London, England.
Complementing the work of his colleagues, Dr. David E. Freilich specializes in cosmetic eye plastic surgery. He also addresses aesthetic and functional issues pertaining to eye sockets, tear ducts and eyelids, and administers
Botox® and dermal fillers. He is an authority on thyroid-related eye disease,
birth defects, tumors and injury affecting one’s eye sight.
