TAP GRANT UPDATE Curt White spoke at the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners Work Session on November 28th to offer updates and current project plans for the Downtown Waxhaw Pedestrian and Bicycle Facility Enhance- ment Plan, otherwise known as the TAP Grant. The TAP Grant will address five key areas: parking, traffic, pedestrian connectivity, bike enhancement, and streetlights. The streetlight component is not a part of the TAP Grant, but is a project they want to plan and accomplish at the same time to maximize the impact of the grant’s implementation. All five of these areas are being addressed in terms of safety and accessibility for downtown Waxhaw. The goal of the plan is to create easily accessible parking and traffic flow for vehicles while increasing accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists in the town. The project started in 2016. White began research for the TAP Grant with several surveys and Waxhaw citizen feedback. A field audit this past August included walking around downtown with residents and assessing the five key areas of the project. White is working with Duke Energy to incorporate street- lights into the plan in 2018 based on feedback from the town. Currently in the pre-construction phase, White and the Board of Commissioners are evaluating the proposed engineering designs, which can be found on waxhaw.com. Construction will begin towards the end of 2018 and is expected to conclude in 2019. Proposed concepts can be found - http://waxhaw.com/673/PedestrianBicycle-Investments-TAP-Grant
