The Town of Waxhaw’s Parks & Rec Department offers activities for all ages. Not only are
there crafts and games for Waxhaw’s youngest members, there are life-skill activities for
teens which allow them to learn how to cook meals for themselves, practice self-defense, and
CPR training.
Fun Days in the Park and Family Fun Nights will promote quality time amongst family
members and friends of all ages. There are also programs coordinated specifically for our
senior community members, giving them an opportunity to socialize and meet new friends
while learning something new at every event.
Parks & Rec recently moved to an online registration program called RecDesk, which will
simplify the process of signing up for programs. Please visit the website at http://waxhaw.
recdesk.com to create a profile and read more about the various program offerings that will
be available through December of this year.
A few of the upcoming programs include a Fire Safety demonstration hosted by the Waxhaw
Volunteer Fire Department for ages 6-11, as well as Stranger Safety Tips with the Waxhaw
Police Department. For teens, sign up for a trip to the Waxhaw Escape Room in September.
There will be an event for adults ages 18+ hosted by Jordan Brookshire, head chef at Mary
O’Neill’s Irish Pub where he will teach participants how to create two classic dishes. For the
health-conscious adult, Parks & Rec is offering yoga classes under the Water Tower and an
Emotional Wellness course in October.
Need a quick and easy getaway? Parks & Rec is also planning seasonal day trips to locations
within a four-hour drive of Waxhaw. The cost includes transportation and a portion of the
activity for the day.
