MEET AMY MERRILL
Program Coordinator
You’ve probably heard the buzz around town about all the fantastic
programs being offered to the Waxhaw community. Meet one of the
masterminds behind these successful events: Amy Merrill, Program
Coordinator.
Prior to taking on this role, Amy spent three years working as the
Events Assistant for the Town of Waxhaw. Before moving to North
Carolina, she ran her own daycare business from her hometown in
New York. The combination of these roles not only prepared Amy for
the many programs she is now tasked with planning and organizing,
but also gave her experience working with young children and their parents. When asked what a day in the
life of Program Coordinator looks like, Amy said, “50% of my job is spent organizing program details, locating
business owners willing to provide activities, researching program ideas, and coordinating the activities. The
other 50% of my time is actually working the programs.”
“Sometimes I’m downtown coordinating a youth program under the Water Tower, or at a local business
helping run a teen program, or at the McDonald House for Senior Coffee Hour, or at the park for our Fun
Days in the Park summer activities. A few times during the year I get to chaperone an adult trip. Our last
program we went on a riverboat cruise on the Catawba Queen in Lake Norman. It is really fun getting to
know the residents of our community and watching them enjoy themselves.”
In April of this year, Amy received her Five Year Service Award from the Town of Waxhaw. Thank you, Amy,
and the Parks & Rec team for your hard work planning and executing these fun and inclusive events for our
community!
