The Waxhaw Board of Commissioners (BOC) is looking to fill the vacant seat left by Commissioner Fred Burrell. The Board will appoint a
new commissioner who will take the oath of office on July 23. The new commissioner will serve from July 23, 2019 to December 10, 2019.
The application process involves a written application and a possible interview component. The complete process is explained below.
The Board wants to be very thoughtful and transparent in making the appointment to fill the Board vacancy. It is the hope and anticipation
of the BOC that we will have a diverse pool of qualified candidates apply by the June 28 deadline.

FILLING A VACANCY ON THE WAXHAW BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (BOC):
1. Town Clerk to Advertise
• Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, live within the Waxhaw town limits, and be registered to vote.
• All applications must be submitted to the Town Clerk’s Office. The deadline to submit an application is 12:00 noon, June 28.

2. Town Clerk to Compile Applications by July 10.
• Disqualified candidates (i.e., non-residents) will be disqualified with the candidate notified of the reason.
3. The Board will consider and fill vacancy in open session.
• July 19: The BOC may interview and will discuss/debate all qualified candidates and select two by ballot for consideration.
• July 22: The BOC will interview two candidates and select a final candidate to be appointed to the BOC. The two candidates may make
personal statements of no more than five minutes at the beginning of the interview.
• July 23: The appointed candidate will be sworn in to serve the remainder of the open term that runs through December 10, 2019.
