Water Conservation Program (continued)
COMMUNITY GARDEN GRANTS
Our Community Garden Grant Program provides irrigation meters to help customers better monitor and
efficiently manage water use. During FY 2017-18, the SFPUC awarded grant funding to install dedicated
irrigation water meters at three community gardens, including Tompkins Stairs Beautification Project,
Bernal Cut Restoration Project, and Candlestick Point State Recreation Area Native Plant Nursery.
COMMUNITY GARDEN GRANTS CASE STUDY: COLLEGE HILL LEARNING GARDEN
In February 2018, the College Hill Learning Garden in Bernal Heights requested an
SFPUC outdoor Water-Wise Evaluation to determine how to reduce water use while still
maintaining a healthy landscape. Adjustments were made to reduce the scheduled run
time of the irrigation system along with identifying minor irrigation system repairs. Since
then, the College Hill Learning Garden reduced its water usage by 38%.
