There were 256 entries from 14 countries, including trucks and cars with hundreds of race teams competing in 21 classes. Actor Patrick Dempsey had signed on to compete in a Zero One Odyssey racecar. The actor / driver had later won the 5500 class, with Andy Lally, and Matt Cruson, running the Mint 400, with a Winning Time of 21 minutes past hour 7. Melissa Eickhoff, Pattie Mayer and Pilar Lastra placed second and had the distinction of being an all-female Race Team.
Patrick Dempsey was heard saying,“ It was amazing to race in the dirt again and win. I dug into my Baja 1000 experience and went for it. Andy’ s never done this kind of racing before, he did great and the Zero One team was great. Even the girls rocked.” UTV’ s are race rigs changing the future of the Sport. UTV racers have secured factory support and are laying down some of the quickest lap times competing against the higher dollar classes, on the Course, at the same time. Tires ranging in size from 25” up to 30” tall and the fastest Rig sporting about 125hp, together, make for a fast and capable Race Rig. Competing against trucks / buggies and other UTV Race Teams, made for a good showing in the desert.
