We serve the animal, citizens and communities of Washington County from our location at 16620 State Hwy 123, just north of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Washington County SPCA is a 501(c)3 private, non-profit organization not affiliated with any other entity. The organization receives no government subsidies or funds from the United Way, ASPCA or the Humane Society of the United States. I will use this picture in place of the one that usually appears here for it represents where my journey into animal welfare began. In most people’s minds, the core work of the Washington County SPCA is to care for the lost and unwanted animals in Washington County and help them all find homes. We are expected to help build a community that is more compassionate to companion animals and provide services (such as spay/neuter) for those who cannot afford it without assistance. It catches many by surprise when I refer to our nonprofit organization as having the same performance standards as a for-profit entity. I am certain that you expect, as do I, that we use resources wisely, attract and retain skilled and benevolent staff, and maintain high-quality programs that serve our community. Does it surprise you that the Washington County SPCA sees you, the donor, as an investor, who expects a return on investment (ROI)? Your dedicated support enables us to promote the humane treatment of animals throughout Washington County. It also facilitates care for animals in our adoption program and eliminates any need to euthanize for time or space - even when this means caring for an animal for months on end or undertaking reasonable efforts to nurse an animal back to health. Carrying this line of thought forward, as your ROI increases, a more caring community is created. Rather than a cash or stock dividend, your ‘Return on Investment’ is measure by each life, human and animal, that is positively impacted by the mission of the Washington County SPCA. Through hard work and determination on the part of our staff, Board of Directors and partners such as PetSmart, PetSmart Charities, Oklahoma Spay Network, Oklahoma State University’s Center for Veterinary Health Services, and Arrowhead Veterinary Clinic, the Washington County SPCA has not euthanized an adoptable animal in over four years. As a result of your investment in our mission, innovative programs for animal welfare continue to advance. More children expand their understanding through humane education experiences. More people come home to wagging tails, motoring purrs, smile facilitators and unconditionally loving companions. The good news is that your return on investment has appreciatively multiplied. To continue this trend, however, we need your help. Your contribution can inspire and feed the collective hearts of our community. We hope that you will continue to invest in the Washington County SPCA through pledged monthly monetary donations, as well as donations of your time or items on our Wish List.
