Events Team Welcomes Two New Staffers AWB Welcomes Interns as Workforce Portal Grows
Two experienced business professionals with a background at AWB have joined the events department .
Mallory Campbell comes to AWB from Travel Tacoma and has worked with AWB before , alongside her grandma in a local catering company that served meals at AWB conferences for years .

Angela Hoseney
Angela Hoseney , formerly in the AWB membership department , has returned to AWB after working at Seabrook Hospitality . She and her husband are also co-owners of Scoopology Pet Waste Removal .
Hoseney replaces Stacie Neiswanger , who has moved from the AWB events team to a position with AWB ’ s CompWise retrospective ratings program .
AWB Hosts Washington Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board
With workforce one of the greatest ongoing priorities of employers , AWB is committed to helping train and prepare the next generation of skilled workers .
As part of that work , AWB hosted the Washington Workforce Training & Education Coordinating Board for a day-long meeting in February .
The group covered a lot of ground , including how business and labor can work together on this shared goal . AWB President Kris Johnson spoke with April Sims , president of the Washington State Labor Council , in a panel discussion .
Among the board members at the meeting was AWB ’ s former vice president of government affairs , Gary Chandler , who is co-chair of the board .
AWB interns are Jaida Sheppard , Ian Sprouffske and Emma Stepan .
As the statewide Workforce Portal continues to connect employers and interns , AWB has welcomed a number of interns this year .
Emma Stepan , a student at Saint Martin ’ s University in Lacey majoring in educational studies , interns with the AWB Institute . Stepan connected with the Institute for the internship through the Washington Workforce Portal , an initiative of the AWB Institute . STCU sponsored her internship .
Stepan assists the Institute in its work on child care policy which supports LEAP , the Legislative Education Action Project .
Ian Sprouffske re-joined AWB for the second year in a row . A graduate of Rainier High School , he is studying accounting at Friends University in Wichita , Kansas . He also came to AWB through the Washington Workforce Portal , and joins Stepan in supporting the Institute ’ s portfolio of work .
Jaida Sheppard , interning in the AWB events department , graduates this year from Pacific Lutheran University with a bachelor ’ s in business administration and a 4.0 GPA . She has worked for the last four years at the Farm 12 Restaurant , winner of AWB ’ s Washington Resiliency Award in 2022 .
“ It ’ s been great working with these interns and their ideas , energy and willingness to learn ,” said Britney Martin , AWB Institute manager . “ Internships are a powerful tool for both students and employers . AWB is leading by example for our 7,000-plus small business members by hosting our own interns and sharing best practices and expanding internship opportunities through the Washington Workforce Portal .”
