Legislative Day Connects Employers with Lawmakers
AWB members connected with nearly 80 lawmakers during the 38th-annual AWB Legislative Day and Hill Climb in January .
It was a chance for employers to hear the latest on important issues like housing , child care and employment law , as well as an opportunity for lawmakers to hear the voice of employers .
The same day , the AWB board of directors held a meeting that included legislative updates from the governor ’ s staff and Rep . Drew Stokesbary .
The day concluded with a well-attended legislative reception at Heritage Distilling in Tumwater .
Nominations Open for Employer Excellence , Manufacturing Awards
A new video walks through the easy two-minute application process for AWB Washington Excellence Awards and Manufacturing Excellence Awards . Nominations are due by June 30 .
The awards will be presented at the Evening of Excellence on Nov . 16 , held this year for the first time at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle .

New Workers ’ Compensation Professional Joins Forterra
Forterra , AWB ’ s service company subsidiary , has welcomed workers ’ compensation professional Sarah Crain to the team .
As vice president of workers ’ comp services , Sarah will be instrumental in overseeing the CompWise Retro program and related services offered to members .
She has extensive experience working with both state fund and self-insured employers .
Sarah ’ s most current position was with Approach Management , where she was responsible for managing top-performing Retro groups for several trade associations .
She currently holds a Washington Workers ’ Compensation Professional designation .
AWB Members get $ 10 Million in Workers ’ Comp Refunds
In 2022 , members enrolled in AWB ’ s CompWise Workers ’ Comp Retro Program received premium refunds totaling more than $ 10 million . Additionally , CompWise recouped another $ 1.5 million for employers through the Department of Labor & Industries ’ Stay-at-Work program , which rewards employers for bringing injured employees back to work quickly and safely .
Participating in CompWise helps you lower upfront premiums paid to L & I and provides an opportunity for you to qualify for refunds . There are four separate industry groups : manufacturing , service / retail / wholesale , hospitality / entertainment , and facilities / property management . The program offers safety services to help you prevent workplace injuries and effective claims management in the event claims do occur . CompWise can also act as your advocate for L & I issues and assist in many other areas .
