Pine Bush Central School District weighs options during days of extreme heat

The first week of school was scorching,
and with no central Air Conditioning
(AC) system capable of air conditioning
the entire building in any of the schools
in the Pine Bush School District, students
had to deal with the heat.

Morning visitors to the Valley Central
High School-Middle School campus may
have noticed less traffic congestion on
State Route 17K on school days this year.
That change is largely in part to the Town
of Montgomery police officer that has
been directing traffic at the site since the
start of the academic year. The district
worked with Town of Montgomery
Police Chief Arnold Amthor to secure
the presence of an officer at the location
each school day to alleviate gridlock in
the absence of a traffic light outside the
campus.
At the Valley Central Board of
Education on Tuesday, Superintendent
John Xanthis noted that the arrangement
has been a success so far. Xanthis
explained that in previous school years he
would encounter heavy traffic on school
days in the short commute between Berea
Elementary School and the high school.
