Pine Bush welcomes new Mexican restaurant
By SHARON MACGREGOR
S
abroso (which means delicious)
Mexican restaurant opened this past
Labor Day at 72 Main Street in Pine
Bush. The Pine Bush Area Chamber of
Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony
on October 10 to officially welcome
the business to the community. The
Chamber was represented by President
Susan Glusica, Vice-President Michelle
England, Sy Mujovic, Tina Gordon, Ellen
Quimby, Myrna Wolfe, Sharon and John
Tarolli. They were joined by Town of
Crawford Supervisor Charles Carnes,
Rory Holmes Councilman, Jessica
Kempter, Town Clerk as well as many
excited, and supportive family members
of owners Carlos Contreras and Andres
Godines.
Following the ribbon cutting, the
dining room was filled with people and
the celebratory mood could be felt by all.
A mariachi band performed many songs
from La Bamba to Happy Birthday.
Carlos Contreras and Andres Godines
may already be familiar faces to some
customers as they are also the owners
of the popular Dos Amigos in Fair Oaks
for the past eight years. Manager, Jose
Contreras is Carlos’ brother and you may
see other family members including their
sister Anna, in the kitchen and dining
room.
Asked if he wants his three sons;
Christian age 14, Carlos, Jr. 10 and four
year old Erik, to follow him into the
restaurant business, Contreras answered,
Sabroso owners Carlos Contreras (l) and Andres Godines (r).
“Well, I really want them to get a good
education, but we know they will decide
on their own what they want to do. If it
is this (the restaurant business) I would
want them to learn the whole thing from
washing dishes to the top.”
It took an entire year of hard work
inside to prepare the space for opening.
Carlos shared he has worked full-time
for 23 years with his father, Porfirio, at
Optimum Windows in Ellenville. Every
day after work, the demolition down to
the floorboards and remodel would take
place resulting in the bright, colorful
