Just after 5 p . m . on Saturday , Wallkill police officer Patrick Marcial responded to a report of a robbery at ShopRite , at 20 Lloyds Lane in the Town of Wallkill , according to a press release from Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman . The pharmacist told Marcial that a man wearing a black ski mask with a spider web design approached him , displaying a revolver , and demanded narcotics , according to the release . After taking an “ undetermined amount ” of narcotics , the gunman fled the store , the release said .
The robbery was the third pharmacy robbery in Wallkill this year in which the stolen goods were narcotics , while robberies more than doubled from seven last year , Hertman said .
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler attributes the rise in robberies and other crime to a combination of drug addiction and new regulations on opioid prescriptions . They then approved the 2017 budget , but final costs will not be determined until December when rates for health insurance are announced and revenues from sales and mortgage taxes are determined , said Town Supervisor Michael Hayes . The budget includes increased funding for the Josephine Louise Public Library from the proposed $ 5,000 to $ 11,000 . Charles Frank , vice-chair for the library ’ s board of trustees made a plea for $ 90,000 , backing himself up with a presentation on the numbers of people who use the library and its many functions .
