POSTMASTER: Send address changes to Wallkill Valley Times, 300 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550 VC tax levy hike projected to be less than half a percent By JANE ANDERSON The tax levy would go up by less than half a percent if voters approve next year’s Valley Central proposed budget in May, according to numbers presented Monday to the Board of Education. A total of $57,610,236 would need to be gathered through taxes in the 2016-2017 school year, an increase of $275,781 or 0.48 percent from this year’s levy. Assistant Superintendent for Business Lisa Raymond suggested boosting the levy with $250,000 from capital interfund, which would lower the levy increase to 0.04 percent. Some board members said it may be premature to finalize the levy until state aid numbers are solidified and until it’s known whether the district will get its Gap Elimination Aid funding restored. The budget itself comprises three components: Administrative, Capital and Program. The
