The entire Millspaugh family gathered Saturday in Walden ’ s municipal building .
By GARY M . AYD
Marcus “ Mickey ” Millspaugh celebrated his 90th birthday among dozens of friends and family Saturday .
The gathering was held inside the Bradley Municipal Building in front of 50-60 family members and friends , some of whom traveled long distances to make the occasion . Mickey ’ s sister Joanne traveled in from Indiana , while his grandson Rob came all the way in from Montana .
Four generations of Millspaughs were present . Mickey and Barbara , his wife of 65 years have three children , 12 grandchildren and now four great grandchildren .
The Millspaugh family has been prominent in Walden since the 19th century with their family-run furniture and funeral home businesses . Mickey has worked in both . Prior to and since retirement Mickey has enjoyed being out on the water . As part of this surprise birthday celebration , a launch point on the Wallkill River was named in his honor .
“ The whole event took about 3 months of planning ,” daughter-in-law Rachel Millspaugh said . “ The DPW , village board and the mayor have all been great and incredibly helpful in putting this together .”
Around the room were various photos of Mickey and his family . Among them was a poster of not photos , but rather things that going on during the year in which Mickey was born ; 1926 . Among them was the formation of NBC , the first SAT exams were given to high school students the New York Rangers playing their first game , Ford Motor Company pioneering the 8-hour a day 40-hours a week work schedule and a first-class stamp two-cents .
The gathering , which lasted about two hours , featured a full spread of sandwiches , snacks and drinks . Beyond that were homemade sweets that had the crowd and this writer talking .
