Pine Bush superintendent retiring in August

The Pine Bush School District Superintendent , Joan Carbone , will be retiring in August after 40 years in education .
Carbone began her career as a special education teacher at BOCES in 1976 . She worked there for 12 years before moving to Pine Bush as a teacher in special education for another nine and half years . The next 18 years were spent moving up in departments until she became superintendent in 2013 .
“ We always respected her because of her knowledge , and her heart was always in the right place ,” said School Board Member Roseanne Sullivan . “ She was not just an employee - she has grown with the district .”
Carbone attended Mount St . Mary College in Newburgh , earned a degree in Psychology and became certified to teach both special education and elementary education . She later attended SUNY New Paltz in 1981 for her Masters with honors in Special Education , and a permanent New York Certification and then School District Administration in 2000 .
Carbone and her husband of nearly 40 years are the parents of grown sons .
She has recently received the Mid- Hudson Study Council Education Leadership Award for her years of work and commitment in education from Senators Bonacic and Larkin . She also served on the Executive Board of Mid-Hudson School Study Council and was a member of the Superintendent ’ s Curriculum Committee .
“ We have a diverse community in three different counties and seven townships . The community is extremely supportive of our students ,” Carbone said . “ we have great kids and families . I will sincerely miss working in Pine Bush .”

integration of special education students into classes with non-disabled peers ,” she said . “ All students have optimal learning in this environment with differentiated instruction .”
Carbon will miss working in the district and wishes for the community to know that she is very honored and proud to have been their superintendent .
“ My advice to those I am leaving in Pine Bush is simply to stay focused on what is best for all children . Work together to better the world we live in and to prepare our students for a successful , productive and kind life ,” Carbone said .
Carbone is looking forward to “ spending more time with my husband , children and grandchildren , relaxing and traveling ” during her retirement .
As of now , the Pine Bush Board of Education has hired a search consultant firm and has established a comprehensive search plan to find the next superintendent . Until the new superintendent is found , Donna Geidel , Assistant Superintendent , will be the Acting Superintendent .
Boy , 7 , injured in bike crash
victim , Tashaun Pelham , a seven-yearold Watkins Avenue resident , conscious and suffering from serious head injuries .
According to a witness , the victim was riding his bike when he collided with a wall . He was transported to Westchester County Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition .
